Glen A. Barton and Caterpillar, Inc.

1995 Industry Partnership Award

Glen A. Barton was born in 1939 in Alton, Missouri. He graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and then joined Caterpillar, Inc., as a trainee.

From 1964 to 1968, he served with Caterpillar Overseas in Switzerland and then became manager of South American Sales in 1972. In 1977, he was made manager of Caterpillar's Merchandising Division and completed Stanford University's Executive Program. From 1983 to 1986, he held various management positions and in 1987 became vice president of Caterpillar and president of their Solar Turbine subsidiary. In 1990, he became group president, where he was responsible for Caterpillar’s extensive line of earth moving, agricultural, and paving products equipment and marketing operations in Europe, Africa, Mideast, and Japan.

Mr. Barton is a member of several boards of directors, including INCO, Ltd., and National Mining Association. In 1996, he will be chairman of NMA's World Class MINEXPO Equipment Exhibition to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. There is an essential and extensive synergistic partnership between the mining industry and Caterpillar, Inc.
